Welcome to T Time: Spiritual Conversations

2

:

For, With and About women.

3

:

I'm your host Twanna Henderson, and

as always, I want to remind you to

4

:

like this broadcast and definitely to

share it with everyone that you know.

5

:

Well, as you are aware, we have been

continuing in our focus on the theme

6

:

of evangelism this year, and I'm really

excited about our guest on today.

7

:

Our guest is Cassie Beyer.

8

:

Cassie has dedicated her life to equipping

others for ministry and for sharing the

9

:

transformative love of Jesus Christ.

10

:

She currently serves as the director

of ministry at Hope Community Church

11

:

in Shawano, Wisconsin, where she

helps guide the church's mission to

12

:

bring hope and freedom through faith.

13

:

With a heart for discipleship and

leadership, Cassie has been part of the

14

:

coaching team for IfGathering for the

past eight years and now serves as a

15

:

regional coach, empowering women to step

boldly into their God given callings.

16

:

In addition to her ministry work, Cassie

is pursuing a degree in biblical studies,

17

:

deepening her understanding of scripture

and its application in today's world.

18

:

She is a devoted wife of 12 years and

mom to three children and she balances

19

:

the fun and challenges of family life of

her passion for helping others experience

20

:

the hope, joy and freedom found only

in Jesus when she's not leading or

21

:

learning, she enjoys downhill skiing.

22

:

Oh, that's interesting.

23

:

Running and car worship jam sessions,

her favorite way to reset and to

24

:

recharge through every season.

25

:

Her mission remains the same to

inquire, inspire, I'm sorry, and

26

:

equip others to know and live out

the gospel, in their everyday lives.

27

:

Cassie, welcome to T Time.

28

:

Cassie Beyer: Thank you.

29

:

It's so good to be on today.

30

:

Twanna Henderson: So good to have you.

31

:

Well, I think it is so cool

that you've really dedicated

32

:

your life to equipping others

33

:

especially the next generation.

34

:

And so I want to kind of start

there because I know you have

35

:

a passion there and that can

sometimes be kind of challenging.

36

:

So talk to us about what that looks

like and what that, you know, what

37

:

that looks like in your context.

38

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah, you know,

we're, we're in rural Wisconsin.

39

:

And so we don't have universities by us.

40

:

And so this a passion sometimes of

mine to reach the next generation,

41

:

is sort of a launching place, right?

42

:

So they, they go away to college.

43

:

But the cool thing about our

areas, they often come home.

44

:

And so that really gives an opportunity

as, as young women specifically come back,

45

:

sometimes that means

there's lots of questions.

46

:

Sometimes that means there's even

fear or what did I learn growing up?

47

:

And so it has been a joy to get

to walk through that process.

48

:

You know, specifically with that

college age or, or right out of college,

49

:

coming back and, and in that stage of

trying to make their faith their own.

50

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah, yeah.

51

:

So how did for you, you know, growing

up, you know, in your college years,

52

:

what was that experience like for you?

53

:

Cassie Beyer: Oh, yeah, my

college years were interesting.

54

:

I gave my life to Jesus at 22.

55

:

And so I actually was a young mom.

56

:

I got pregnant at 18 I had my

son at 19 And, made quite the

57

:

mess of, of things, you know, but

luckily, talk about evangelism and

58

:

how living out our faith matters.

59

:

It was really just the way in which

a couple talked about their church

60

:

that ultimately was that launching

point to lead me to the Lord.

61

:

I was like, I've never heard anybody

talk about church as like, enjoyable.

62

:

I want to go.

63

:

I want to see what this is about.

64

:

And so I'm really, I'm really grateful

for that couple and how their love of

65

:

the church is what brought me to Jesus.

66

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah, you know, and it

really speaks to how, you know, in this

67

:

whole, theme of evangelism, how important

it is to really share our stories, to

68

:

share our faith, to share the good news.

69

:

And a lot of times we think that's kind of

hard to do, but just like you said, as a

70

:

young girl, just having them to share with

you and it being so impactful for you,

71

:

and to be able to know, hey, this is not

the church that I, you know, knew about,

72

:

or this is not what I thought church was,

but this is something totally different.

73

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah, yeah, it was great.

74

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah.

75

:

Now I know you serve as director

of ministry for your church.

76

:

so you probably encounter a lot

of different people, doing that.

77

:

What is it about serving in the local

church that, that you really enjoy.

78

:

What are one of the favorite things

about serving in the local church?

79

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah, I mean my

favorite thing is equipping

80

:

the Saints for the work, right?

81

:

I love what I get to do and and I love

working myself out of a job in that

82

:

man when I get to see other women's

gifts coming alive because they've

83

:

been giving an opportunity to serve

whether that is making an incredible

84

:

coffee drink in the cafe or, you know,

trying out teaching gifts up front.

85

:

It's just really cool to watch other

women use their gifts for the glory

86

:

of God and see a path forward of

like, wow, no matter what my gift

87

:

mix is, the Lord wants to use me.

88

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah, I

think that is so wonderful.

89

:

And yeah, just to be able to see

other people and other women,

90

:

particularly to blossom, you know,

able to come alive and to really how

91

:

the Lord is working in their lives.

92

:

are there any stories that about

women that you've seen that,

93

:

that that blossoming, you know,

occurring that stand out to you?

94

:

Cassie Beyer: I mean, you know, one

of my favorites is probably, you

95

:

know, my friend, Jenny, we weren't

close friends when I met her, but

96

:

she, she came from a different church

background and, and she came in with

97

:

curiosity, and, and she loved God, But

she was kind of confused by the Old

98

:

Testament, of like, wait, he seems mean.

99

:

I don't get it.

100

:

And, to get to walk with her through

scripture and to see the Lord's kindness,

101

:

in the context of the Old Testament

and how that's filled over and, and to

102

:

see her now, I mean, she, she's leading

our women's, scripture study ministry

103

:

that, you know, we have anywhere from

40 to 100 women showing up, to worship

104

:

and dig into scripture on their own.

105

:

That, that stuff's my favorite, you

know, to get to see people who've

106

:

maybe loved God in some way really

cross that line into surrendering

107

:

their entire lives to serving Him.

108

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah, now I

don't want to skip from, you know,

109

:

you being this, this person, this

teenager who has this story from

110

:

this couple to the staff person.

111

:

Tell me something about the in between

because there had to be some things

112

:

that got you from there to here.

113

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah.

114

:

Yeah.

115

:

I mean, there's a lot, but you

know, the, the short end of it is,

116

:

you know, in the midst of being a

young mom, I turned to drinking.

117

:

And so I now have, celebrated

14 years of sobriety.

118

:

You know, and quitting and surrendering

my own life to Jesus is certainly

119

:

the thing that changed everything.

120

:

And so I started coming to this church

that was fun, that I had heard about.

121

:

And, you know, really started

slowly getting involved.

122

:

I was a domestic violence and sexual

assault counselor at the time.

123

:

And actually, I was on a walk with a

friend, and our church was a little

124

:

bit smaller then, and I had said to my

friend, you know, if I could do anything,

125

:

I would love to be the church secretary.

126

:

And, and no lie, the next week it was

in the church bulletin that they were

127

:

looking to hire the church, you know, I

think they called it office manager then.

128

:

And so, you know, by the grace of God,

You know, I applied, I got it and, and

129

:

grateful for the leadership around me

that, early on just gave me opportunity

130

:

to study, gave me opportunity to, try

different things and ultimately just

131

:

affirms leadership giftings that they saw

in me, to really help try and be a leader

132

:

of leaders here within our local context.

133

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah,

that's an amazing story.

134

:

I'm sure there have been people, other

people in your life as well along

135

:

that journey who've been impactful.

136

:

Can you share about anybody else who has

just sort of, you know, been instrumental

137

:

in that, that journey for you?

138

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah, I mean, I'm so

grateful for, you know, my, Pastor, the

139

:

pastor, he's, he just recently moved

on from here, but Pastor John, the

140

:

one who hired me, really, him and the,

the other pastors here, just being a

141

:

woman in a rural context, there weren't

other women in full time ministry.

142

:

And so for them to, answer my

questions and for them to be patient

143

:

with me as a young person at that

point in ministry was a gift.

144

:

But also they pulled a chair up for

me at that table And, and I know that

145

:

that's not every woman's experience

in ministry, and so, I am so grateful,

146

:

that I, I, you know, I've never had to

ask, I've never asked for opportunity.

147

:

The Lord has just been kind and

surrounded me with really godly men,

148

:

and now that our staff has grown,

I'm so grateful that there are,

149

:

godly women too, surrounding me too.

150

:

That we get to do a lot

of ministry together.

151

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah,

that's, that's really awesome.

152

:

That's a blessing.

153

:

I know part of your role is to also, to

lead and run a women's, annual event.

154

:

What has that been like and have you

seen God move through it, with women?

155

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah, I mean,

I, I have loved hosting.

156

:

We've hosted IF GATHERING for many

years and, you know, it's really

157

:

morphed into a lot of our own stuff too.

158

:

But, my favorite thing has really

been forming that leadership team

159

:

and watching them use their gift mix.

160

:

That has been incredible, but, but one

thing specifically this last year that

161

:

happened was, we got a testimony from

a woman who came, a younger woman,

162

:

who said, you know, I came because I

wanted to feel this feeling that other

163

:

people have talked about, this like

spiritual high of like feeling Jesus.

164

:

And she said, you know,

that never happened.

165

:

But she said, I watched all of you

worship God and something in me changed.

166

:

It wasn't that she had a feeling.

167

:

It wasn't that someone

said the right thing.

168

:

It wasn't that the

worship music was perfect.

169

:

She watched people worship and

pray and the Lord just used that

170

:

to minister to her in such a way.

171

:

And now she's here and she's serving and

she loves the Lord and her husband's here.

172

:

She just joined.

173

:

We're launching a women's leadership

cohort that she's jumping into.

174

:

And so, getting to see those sorts of,

you know, both leaders getting to, to live

175

:

out their gift mix, but then how that's

impacting people who are brand new to

176

:

their faith or brand new to all of this.

177

:

man, getting to do a conference like that,

it just, it really opens those doors to

178

:

get to be a part of what God's doing.

179

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah.

180

:

And how amazing that the

worship was contagious.

181

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah.

182

:

Twanna Henderson: It

was contagious worship.

183

:

I mean, her seeing the worship was the

thing that really spoke to her and,

184

:

you know, just really opened her eyes

to a different level of experience.

185

:

That's, that's, that's amazing.

186

:

And I know if putting something together,

cause you keep talking about leaders

187

:

and, and developing leaders, how, how,

how did you go about building, just

188

:

a leadership team, for, for this, or

how would anybody go about doing that?

189

:

Yeah.

190

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah, I mean my first

go around I just grabbed a bunch of

191

:

people and that didn't necessarily

Yeah, that didn't necessarily work

192

:

out the best because sometimes

that's just you know, it's just hard

193

:

But it was actually your teaching

194

:

I had heard a while ago man.

195

:

It was years ago.

196

:

Twanna Henderson: Oh,

197

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah.

198

:

Yeah.

199

:

Where you had mentioned these leadership

qualifications you look for, which was,

200

:

you know, just observations, right?

201

:

We're not trying to be super

legalistic, but do we observe these

202

:

qualities and people around us?

203

:

And it was, you know, do they

attend worship regularly?

204

:

Do they serve faithfully,

do they give generously?

205

:

And then do they just kind of help out?

206

:

Like, you know, when they

see a need, do they jump in?

207

:

And so.

208

:

I started forming my team using

those qualifications and honestly,

209

:

some of these people weren't

even my friends at the time.

210

:

I'm just like, you check the boxes, so

I'm just going to trust that your, your

211

:

life is surrendered to the Lord and that

you're going to make a great teammate.

212

:

And I don't even know what your gifts are.

213

:

And, and the Lord has just blessed

that and surrounded me with such an

214

:

incredible group of women who, you know,

are just surrendered and they're easy

215

:

to work with and it's just been a game

changer and so much so that our church

216

:

has really adapted those same principles

when it comes to when we're looking

217

:

for key leaders within the church,

like, you know, are these qualities

218

:

just an observable part of their life?

219

:

And I think they just demonstrate

that surrender heart, soul, mind,

220

:

you know, time finances, all of it

is just surrendered to the Lord.

221

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah.

222

:

And unless others know anybody who's

listening, you know, cause sometimes

223

:

you think, you know, Oh, I'm not

a leader, but you are a leader.

224

:

And I think you have

to just recognize that.

225

:

If you do have a surrendered heart and

you're, you're willing to just step in

226

:

there and to be, to be led and to be

coached and all those different things

227

:

that you can become that leader that God,

you know, may really be calling you to.

228

:

And so, you know, for anybody who's

listening, who's wondering, you know,

229

:

am I, am I that person, you know, can

I be, cultivate those things in myself?

230

:

You can.

231

:

because if you're once you're willing,

the Lord will, will do the rest.

232

:

He really will.

233

:

And we just have to be, surrender

to him as you say, and be obedient

234

:

to what God really wants us.

235

:

You know, I really love how you, have

given other women the opportunity to,

236

:

to, to teach and to, to lead and, and,

and to really cheer them on, because

237

:

that's so important to be able to, to

cheer them on and to feel cheered on.

238

:

How has God grown Cassie through that?

239

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah, yeah.

240

:

It was, it's funny.

241

:

Sometimes we delegate too much.

242

:

And you know, it was really this

last year we knew might be our

243

:

last sort of conference in the

way in which we've known it.

244

:

And I really felt like the

Lord was like asking me to be

245

:

the one to speak that year.

246

:

I had delegated that out every

other year to somebody else.

247

:

And, man, I just felt so sure.

248

:

I wanted such a clear

presentation of the gospel.

249

:

And, You know, in that, it was paired

with this other conviction, you know,

250

:

being on staff, being on stage some weeks.

251

:

I really felt like the Lord said,

that's, that's great, Cassie.

252

:

But you had better be sharing

Jesus in your real life then too.

253

:

Not, not just with a microphone from a

stage and, man, that was humbling and

254

:

convicting and honestly led me to, to

the one of my favorite, discipleship

255

:

groups, you know, I just went out on a

limb and messaged some people that, you

256

:

know, one had attended our conference

but never really come to church and,

257

:

and, another was a softball mom that was

a friend of my daughter's and I'm like,

258

:

I'm just, and one was somebody who hadn't

really been coming to the church anymore

259

:

but thought I'd reach out cause they

were just busy and everyone said yes.

260

:

And it was such a joy to get to walk

through, really the gospel from day one.

261

:

we did the, I love Blackaby's

"Experiencing God" study.

262

:

And so we did the condensed

version of that one.

263

:

And to get to see these girls

say yes to Jesus, and then these

264

:

little faith steps of like praying

out loud, which can be so scary.

265

:

And just a couple months ago, Danielle,

my friend, had an opportunity to

266

:

pray out loud in front of our whole

women's ministry, which she was

267

:

terrified, but it was so cool to

see how God had grown her from that

268

:

initial Bible study to now where she's.

269

:

But she's doing it, praying

for a whole group of women.

270

:

It was, it was beautiful.

271

:

And so I'm just grateful for

how the Lord, keeps me humble.

272

:

I try, I try to pray that prayer a lot.

273

:

but sometimes I regret it.

274

:

So he, he answers it always.

275

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah.

276

:

Yeah.

277

:

What would you say to someone who,

you know, who is working in an

278

:

area of ministry and really wants

to, to be impactful to others,

279

:

who really wants to know how to

influence others for, for the Lord.

280

:

What would you say to them?

281

:

Cassie Beyer: I mean, I think I'm

just constantly reminded that I have

282

:

to be right with the Lord first.

283

:

The, the second, the second

I'm not, I'm in trouble.

284

:

not trouble like discipline,

but trouble like I'm, I'm just

285

:

going through the motions.

286

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah.

287

:

Cassie Beyer: Because I, I think

influence comes from the Lord.

288

:

It does.

289

:

I mean, we can't, we can't buy it.

290

:

You know, you can have any title you

want, but the reality is, whether

291

:

or not people see us favorably,

is really dependent on God.

292

:

I just got to teach, about

Daniel at, at our Women's.

293

:

Night, just a few days ago.

294

:

And then, and that's his life, right?

295

:

It was, I can't interpret

these dreams, but the Lord can.

296

:

And I think we just have

to stick with that posture.

297

:

And to like, recognize

it's always for the one.

298

:

I remember my first Bible study.

299

:

I was so excited.

300

:

I had like 25 women show up and I felt

real cool and really like, Oh my gosh,

301

:

people like me and they want to learn

about Jesus and I'll take one or two now

302

:

any day.

303

:

I just, I just, to be up close and real

life and hard conversations, that's

304

:

for me in this season of ministry,

like that's, that's where it's at.

305

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah.

306

:

Yeah.

307

:

How has your own testimony

allowed you to be able to reach

308

:

other women and to impact them?

309

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah.

310

:

I mean, I just, I believe so much

in vulnerability and transparency.

311

:

You know, and so whether that's my, being

a young mom, whether that was a history

312

:

of, of drinking, you know, whether that

was living with my boyfriend, before we

313

:

got married and the church correcting

that and walking through some of that

314

:

in a really positive healing way.

315

:

Like it just feels like the Lord

has done so much in my life that,

316

:

I'd hope I could be that, be that

bridge for somebody who maybe doesn't

317

:

feel like they fit the church.

318

:

The church girl, sort of mantra,

through that transparency.

319

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah, I think that is

so huge to the transparency part because,

320

:

you know, there are people listening to

this podcast and they were thinking, gosh,

321

:

you know, I've got this past or whatever.

322

:

And we all have a past, you know, and

they're saying, you know, here's this

323

:

woman who, you know, she has a past,

she has a testimony, but now here she is

324

:

the, you know, on staff as the, you know,

director of, of, of ministry at a church.

325

:

And I think that the Lord, I heard

a pastor say that the Lord brings

326

:

blessings out of brokenness, and I

think when we allow him to do that,

327

:

he, he's able to, to, to use us, you

know, even greater cause we, you know,

328

:

we were stripped down to everything.

329

:

that's, that's, that's not useful.

330

:

And then he takes it and shapes it

and makes it what he wants it to be.

331

:

And so I think definitely sharing our

story and sharing, what the Lord has done.

332

:

It's so important.

333

:

It's so important.

334

:

and so impactful.

335

:

you know, I think the Lord has

certainly gifted you to be an equipper.

336

:

And I believe an encourager as

well to other women and, and, and

337

:

really, you know, really, trying

to, to, to, connect in a way,

338

:

that may be different from others.

339

:

There are those who are

listening today, especially

340

:

women who need to be encouraged.

341

:

To, to live out the gospel

in their everyday lives.

342

:

You know, before we close, I want to just

ask you to just pray for them as well

343

:

as for all of our listeners that that we

will step into our God given callings,

344

:

in order to impact the world for Christ.

345

:

Cassie Beyer: Yeah.

346

:

Yeah, I'd love to.

347

:

Twanna Henderson: Yeah.

348

:

Cassie Beyer: Father, we, goodness,

we are so grateful for, the plan

349

:

that you have for all of us.

350

:

God, that you, man, before we were

born, you predetermined our days, our

351

:

location, our families, our ministry.

352

:

And so God, would we lean into that?

353

:

Would we, be so grateful for the

opportunities that you put in front of us?

354

:

And would we dream?

355

:

Would we dream about the

opportunities maybe that you have

356

:

for, for everyone in their future?

357

:

And Lord, for those, for those women who

are questioning, God, what is my calling?

358

:

What is it you want me to do?

359

:

Lord, would you help them rest?

360

:

That their first job is to love

you, God, to love you with their

361

:

heart and their mind and their soul

and to put you first and everything

362

:

else really, really will be added.

363

:

God, it truly will be added and so God, I

pray that there's a, there's a surrender.

364

:

There's a surrender of what maybe they

thought life would look like, what

365

:

they thought ministry would look like.

366

:

And there, there's a holy submission, God

to you and your will and your plan and God

367

:

for the women who are tired, God, I pray

that you would encourage their spirit.

368

:

God, would you, give them

rest if they need rest?

369

:

But God, man, sometimes when you

show up with your glory, that

370

:

is, that is the rest we need.

371

:

We need to see you move.

372

:

We need to see a miracle.

373

:

We need to see something change.

374

:

We want to see how, how you are

moving in and through each one of us.

375

:

God, we're so grateful that we get

to be a part of your plan, to reach

376

:

the world with the hope of Jesus.

377

:

And it's in his name I pray, Amen.

378

:

Twanna Henderson: Amen.

379

:

Cassie, it's been great chatting with

you and I'm really excited about what

380

:

the Lord, is going to continue to do in

your life as you serve and guide others.

381

:

I believe there's still some

greater things in store for you.

382

:

Cassie Beyer: Thank you.

383

:

It's been great.

384

:

Twanna Henderson: Yes.

385

:

So to all of our listeners,

I'm Twanna Henderson.

386

:

Until next time, be blessed of the Lord.
